Fantastic up and down the field polo was played today.. Young guns Haydn Walsh & Devon Kahle just flying and not missing on some challenging plays.

Coleman Replogle is back and we saw some flashes of brilliance...the Replogle way is to charge to the front and carry the ball down the field...Coleman certainly carried on the tradition of more than 20 years, galloping out at the front..despite suffering from a little bit of the flu!!

The most popular goal of the day was set up by Max Secunda for Shamrock with a long pass to Haydn Walsh who in turn passed to Dad John. John stayed steady and scored.

Welcome to Phillip Miles from PA & Destiny Farms to Vero Polo. Phillip had some beautiful horses and was always in the thick of things. Never backing down and chasing down every play.

George as we have come to expect kept things in order for Rocking K with very solid play from the back.

In the end Shamrock pulled ahead and won this first game of 2012.

Well done to Craig with one footed play!

I would be lacking if I didn't thanks Sandy Kahle for putting this all together...Thanks Sandy!!!!!

Thank you to all you came out in support, only the 2nd annual match and the sidelines were packed!

Both teams came out and played very clean polo for the first few chukkers, as the final chukkers approached the heat was turned on and more goals were scored in quick succession.

Ocean Grill came out on top, much to the delight of the "Grillies" 5-3.

Coleman & Tiffany with 2 goals each and Gaston with 1.
For Shamrock Sahir scored once with a goal each by George and Max.

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, Windsor's breathtaking polo field will be the site of The Charity Polo Cup at Windsor, an exciting and glamorous charity polo match featuring top international players and celebrities such as Salvatore Ferragamo and John Walsh. The Honourable Hilary M. Weston, Windsor co-founder and resident along with Vero Beach's own John Walsh, host of America's Most Wanted, are this year's honorary co-chairs.

Windsor has a long and distinguished tradition of hosting memorable world class polo matches where highly esteemed players such as Prince Charles have played. Following in that tradition, the Charity Polo Cup at Windsor will be an afternoon of thrilling, fast-paced polo, together with other fun-filled activities.

Proceeds from this charity event will directly benefit three worthy causes including The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County and Saint Edward's School Financial Aid Fund. Match attendees will have the option of enjoying an elegant tented field side champagne luncheon or enjoying a picnic in the festive tailgating area.

Polo match to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission

A polo match benefiting the children of Fellsmere at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission will be Dec. 18 at 10 Square Polo Field, 7685 Polo Square, Vero Beach (Off 8th Street between 74th and 82nd Avenues).
Gates open at noon and the match starts at 2 p.m.

The event is sponsored by John Walsh's Shamrock Team and the Ocean Grill's Polo Team.
Admission is free with one wrapped toy per person (please specify the intended age and gender for the gift). Monetary donations also will be accepted. In addition, toys can be dropped off at the Ocean Grill gift shop located on Rt. 60 in the Sexton Plaza in Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH -- Vero's tight-knit polo community pulled together Sunday afternoon for a friendly polo match between John Walsh's Shamrock Team and Charlie Replogle's Ocean Grill Polo Team.

At the end of the good-natured game, nobody initially seemed to know the final score, but the real winners were the children of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Mission in Fellsmere.

A suggested donation to the free event had been an unwrapped toy for a child, and the gifts were piling up.

"A neighbor and I decided that we wanted to come together and sponsor a family," said Raquel Searcy, one of the organizers of the event. "Then we got some girlfriends together and were going to sponsor 12 families, but now we can do even more."

One of those friends was Giselle Rodriguez, who mentioned the need for toys to her polo-player husband Gaston. He then enlisted the support of Replogle and Walsh, and the game was on.

"The church has lots of families who need the help; the toys will be well used," said Searcy. "This was all very last minute; next year we hope to start earlier to get the word out sooner, and we hope for even more."

Sister Dolores from the Guadalupe Mission said that many families were in need of help this year. "The most difficult part is delivering the toys since most of the parents are out working during the day," said a grateful Sister Dolores. "That's what takes the most time."

Searcy said she had taken her children along when they delivered toys collected prior to Sunday's match. "We as moms want to do this as a family, so our children learn the gift of giving."

The match was held at 10-Square Polo Club, home to several barns, including those of Replogle and Walsh.

"It's a great cause; we all wanted to come out and support it," said Mary Replogle. "I know they appreciate it."

In addition to the polo community, many in attendance were employees and patrons of the Replogle restaurants. They had included flyers about the event each time they proffered dinner checks at The Ocean Grill and at El Toro Tacos & Tequila at the Patio.

During the half-time divot stomp, Walsh smiled while looking at the turnout saying, "Look at all those cars over there. This is great; it's a really good cause."

He was also delighted with the familial makeup of the teams. Walsh's 16 year-old-son Hayden was playing with him on the Shamrock team, as was Tiffany Busch, whose father Peter rode as umpire. Joining the Replogle team was Charlie's son Cole, who just this month graduated from Clemson University. Rounding out the players were Manuel Davila and Gaston Rodriguez on the Ocean Grill team and Max Secunda on the Shamrock team.

"It's a joy to play with them," said Walsh, who was particularly complimentary of Tiffany Busch's playing. "We hit the ball to her and she scores."

As she watched her son mount a particularly feisty pony, Revé Walsh remarked, "I was the one who took the lid off Pandora's Box when it comes to polo."

Although she personally prefers riding to the hounds, Revé remembered that Hayden got his first polo pony when he was about 8-years old, and then her husband began playing. "The next thing you know, we had a trailer, 12 horses and a team."

George and Sandy Kahle, polo commentator Dawn Redman and her husband James, and East Coast Equine veterinarian Dr. Valerie Biehl were all among the many tailgaters getting a jump on the Vero Beach Polo Club season, which begins January 16.

"It's a promising turnout," said James Redman. "Hopefully, it's a good indication of what the year will be."

After the match, Shamrock 5 to Ocean Grill 3, the players were all quick to give one another credit for the event's success.

"We almost called it this morning," said Replogle. "But it turned out to be a really nice day."

La Dolfina Dominates in Argentine Open Championship Win

The old sports adage says that "offenses win games and defenses win championships", and La Dolfina proved it to be correct Friday afternoon as they recaptured the Argentine Open Championship title in a one-sided 16-10 victory over Ellerstina in Palermo, Argentina in front of over 15,000 cheering fans.

La Dolfina dominated the throw-ins and controlled the ball early on, limiting Ellerstina to just a pair of penalty goals in the first three chukkers. La Dolfina smothered the Ellerstina team with a disciplined defense that limited their shots on goal and had them struggling for a goal from the field throughout the first half. Penalties were also the bane of the young Ellerstina team as they gave up seven goals from fouls. Three missed penalty scoring opportunities from Cambiaso (two blocked, one missed) kept Ellerstina in the game, but it was clear early that Ellerstina would have trouble scoring.

Cambiaso scored on a penalty shot for the first goal of the game and La Dolfina got a second goal from Juan Martin Nero. Facundo Pieres converted a pair of penalty shots for Ellerstina for a 2-2 first chukker.

A pair of Ellerstina penalties in the second period combined with shutout defense had La Dolfina on top of a 4-2 score as both teams had trouble getting away clear shots at the opponent’s goal.

La Dolfina took advantage of disciplined teamwork and some missed opportunities from Ellerstina to run the score to 7-2 at the end of the third chukker. Nero added two more goals from the field and Cambiaso scored his fourth of the game (first from the field) while Facundo Pieres missed scoring on a breakaway and had a 40-yard penalty shot blocked.

Ellerstina continued to press the La Dolfina defense in the fourth, capitalizing on a
pair of penalties that allowed Facundo to add a pair of goals to the Ellerstina total.
Cambiaso responded with a 30-yard penalty conversion and found a streaking Stirling down field with a pinpoint pass for another goal. The first half ended with La Dolfina riding off the field with a comfortable five goal, 9-4 advantage over a struggling Ellerstina foursome.

A determined Ellerstina team took the field in the fifth chukker as Facundo Pieres broke through the La Dolfina defense in the opening minute of play to score his first goal from the field. He added a penalty goal less than a minute later, but that would be the end the scoring in the chukker. Ellerstina cut into the La Dolfina lead, 9-6, but were unable to take control of the play.

Gonzalito Pieres scored his first goal of the game in the sixth period on a pass from Nachi Heguy, but La Dolfina responded with a pair of penalty goals from Cambiaso.
Ellerstina continued to press, but at the end of the period La Dolfina lead by four goals, 11-7 Cambiaso opened the seventh with a penalty goal followed by a goal from Facundo Pieres as he took the ensuing throw-in and raced down the field for a goal, 12-8. Four consecutive La Dolfina goals (two from Pablo MacDonough and single goals from Cambiaso and Stirling) all but ended it for Ellerstina. The boys in black rebounded from seven goal deficits late in two earlier finals with La Dolfina, but that would not be the case today.

Not conceding a thing, Ellerstina charged onto the field in the final chukker as if it were all even, but the La Dolfina defense wouldn’t crack. A penalty goal from Facundo Pieres and a goal from the field from Nico Pieres would close out the scoring, giving the 2011 Argentine Championship trophy to La Dolfina in a 16-10 triumph.

Cambiaso led all scoring with nine goals (seven from the penalty line) and was named MVP for his efforts. Nero scored three times and MacDonough and Stirling scored two goals apiece.

Facundo Pieres recorded eight goals (six on penalty shots) and was honored as the leading scorer in Open play. Nico Pieres and Gonzalito Pieres added single goals in a losing effort.

Asa Branca/Pony Up trailed by a goal going into the second half. Then everything went wild...Full field breakaways by each team were the order of the day. Gaston and Marcus countered each other but Asa Branca/Pony Up came out ahead at the end...Final score 9-7 Asa Branca/Pony Up winners of the USPA Governors Cup. Michelob Ultra the runners up.

Team 007 in their 1991 Porsche 911 came prepared to dazzle their way to the finish line with their Gatorade martini’s and James Bond tuxedo’s. VRRM Navigator Paul Tripaldi, VRRM Driver Tom Kiernan

Fifty-five driving teams in a wide array of exotic, fun, everyday and unusual vehicles paraded into The Sun Up Center as early as 10:30am on Saturday, March 27th to secure their starting position and tailgate before they took to the streets in VRRM’s very casual, family-type outing.

The fabulous “convertible-worthy” weather provided perfect conditions for maneuvering the 40 mile/2 hour route that went south to Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in northern St. Lucie County, east to Vero’s south beach and along Cardinal Drive to as far north as the Vero Beach Airport and west to the finish line at the home of Honorary Rally Chairs Kathi and John Schumann.
