Charlie Replogle played well above his ranking and was MVP for todays game... well done & Happy Birthday Charlie!!!

Happy Birthday to Phillip Miles and Ceasar..!

A mixed day today....rain in the forcast and we thought we might squeeze in some POLO. Unfortunately after 1 chukker and 2 minutes into the 2nd the sky opened up.

Val Biehl. Vet extraordinaire and MVP.. Most Vocal Player!

oh and it was a bit wet.. or am I sweating standing next to the great Val?

Playing in the rain is OK but the threat of lightening is a bit scary when you you are running about on the field on a horse with 4 metal shoes and you are waving a mallet in the air.. !

The field has been in great condition and could cope with a quick downpour... but we got more than that. While the field has a crown on it to let water run off there was just too much and the footing was a bit risky.

Still, thank you to all that stayed around until the game was finally called, and thanks to the diehard Vero Polo fans who sat it all out and still had a great time tail gating.

Next Sunday we have our season ending round robin games.. (For All The Marbles)!!!
We can't wait to see you at Vero Polo next Sunday!!!!

First of all we would like to congratulate the Vero Polo manager Craig Fraser for putting this all together despite the adverse weather... (by the way Craig..the chicken was great!!)

The final of the USPA Governors Cup saw Shamrock & Southern Eagle playing a very close game... up until the final chukker they were never more than one goal apart. At the start of the 4th chukker Tiffanny Busch on Ruby had 2 big runs scoring twice in succession.. this earned Ruby the best Playing Pony award...

Matt Coppola came up from Wellington to round out the Southern Eagle team.. One of the up and coming young American players.. Great ponies and technical ball handling along with a his being in the right place at the right time meant that he was awarded the MVP award.. All you polo fans keep an eye on him.. And keep shopping at the Tackeria!!!

The 2nd game for the Polo Grounds Challenge was a great way to wrap up the day at Vero Polo.

Lizzie Beer's Burnt Mills team against Ocean Grill. Lizzie played really well backed up by the ageless Tomas Ezcurra, Mike Egan & Billy Paterniti.

Wonderful team play saw them win over local favorites Ocean Grill (the very best restaurant in Vero Beach!)

The Ocean Grill team of Mason Primm at 3, Coleman Replogle at 1, a very fast and solid Dolf Kahle at 2 and Marcus Onetto at 4 showed great promise but just couldn't quite do it at the end... a very nice and penalty free game..

In fact a SUPERB day of POLO in Vero Beach.. Thanks everyone!!!!

Tomorrow's final will feature Shamrock v. Southern Eagle. There has been some great polo this week to get to this point. A huge THANK YOU to Alan Jackson for keeping the field in tip top shape during this busy week! Unfortunately Shamrock will be playing without Max as he broke his collarbone in the Thursday match. We wish you a speedy recovery Max!

The 3:15 match will see Ocean Grill v. Burnt Mills in the Consolation/Polo Grounds Challenge.

VERO ROAD RALLY MAGNIFIQUE SHIFTS INTO HIGH GEAR MARCH 31st

(Vero Beach, Florida – Wednesday, March 7, 2012)

The 3^rd Annual Vero Road Rally Magnifique (VRRM), Vero’s only European-style road rally, takes place Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This year’s 40-mile, 1.25-hour rally celebrates the scenic beauty and local history of the Treasure Coast and is full of surprises and may even include rare “Pink Flamingo” sightings,” said VRRM Chair Karl Steene, Vice President of Grand Bank. “Vehicles will Line up for starting position, first in-first out, between 11:00 AM and 12 Noon at the Sun Up Center in Vero. Following the noon Drivers and Navigators meeting, rally entrants will be handed sealed rally instructions as they start, one car at a time, just prior to 1:00 PM.

No matter what car is entered, the car itself does not hold the competitive edge. In fact the 2010 and 2011 winners were a 2005 Ford Expedition and a Lamborghini Gallardo. This year’s rally is limited to 100 cars and registration fee is $250 for each driver and navigator team, plus $125 per person for each additional passenger.

2012 rally participants include Brian Redman, Honorary VRRM Chair and 4-time World Sports Car champion, 3-time Daytona 24 Hour winner, and the 2-time Sebring 12 Hour winner. Other Celebrities include Dawn (the Voice of Polo) and her husband James Redman, Honorary VRRM Rally Masters, David Hobbs, racing champion, Formula One commentator and voice character in Cars 2, and Corkey Fornof, stunt pilot for numerous 007James Bond movies amongst numerous other high-flying, action-packed films.

The VRRM Finish Line Party and Champagne Awards Ceremony, sponsored by David Lopresti at Lopresti Aviation at the Sebastian Airport, will include displays of rare cars, airplanes and automotive memorabilia. The reception also includes a live auction, 60’s car music, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. As the Grande Finale, stunt pilot Corkey Fornof will put on a mini air show kicked-off by members of Sky Dive Sebastian who plan "drop in" for this special event.

According to Dennis Bartholomew, Sun Up’s Executive Director, rally proceeds benefit Sun Up’s programs, services and residential opportunities for developmentally disabled individuals with special needs. Board president Mary Beth Vallar added that with recent funding cutbacks, Florida ranks 47^th in the nation in financial support services for persons with mental disabilities

Vero Beach Polo The USPA Officers Cup Final

Today was another great day of POLO in Vero Beach.. The final of the United States Polo Association sanctioned Officers Cup.

Shamrock vs Environmental Works.

Robin Meltons Enviromental Works team won over Shamrock. Peter Blake played very hard and well managing to escape several times to score thanks to his great riding and solid play when he was on the ball.
Heads up play by Marcus Onetto led to a very fast game up and down the field.

Shamrock had the 3 Quraeshi brothers..Shamir, Sahir & Aayan, along with Sergio Sylvestre.. Who we know from the old days at Windsor. Haydn Walsh played 2 chukkers and as always showed great tenacity and his usual dead on handling of the ball....

The 2nd game was also fantastic. Devon Kahle riding like a gymkahna rider..near side off side and everything in between.

At the end Peter Bibeau's Buckleigh Farms team came out ahead of Rocking K.. POLO in Vero is spectacular.. come out and join us..!

Wow...what can I say?
A fantastic inaugural

Charity Polo Cup at Windsor.

The junior polo players from Ashwood Grove polo school were excellent and really played well getting all the spectators ready for the upcoming game...

Neck and neck for the whole game Seasaw winning over Clementines's 8 to 7 in the last minute.

Highlights included seeing Mike Azzaro and Memo Gracida playing together again, Salvatore Ferragamo being named as MVP. Many thanks to all the sponsors and all the people who came out to support the game and the associated charities.

To give everyone an idea of how special this day was we had the company of Julian Hipwood, Captain of the British Polo Team for 20 years... Thanks Julian, you kept us all in order today.......

POLO CHARITY CUP AT WINDSOR:.....NEWS..
Now this is something to be excited about.
SUPERB POLO!

Memo Gracida is a living legend in polo. He has won the US Open 16 times, almost double the number of his nearest rival. In addition he held a perfect 10 handicap for a record 21 years. He is also one of only three foreigners to have won the pinnacle of the sport, the Argentine Open which has been played for 120 years. He has also won the British Open, the Queens Cup twice, the Australian Open and the World Cup five times.

He is most recognized for being more than a player and captain, he is a general of teams both on and off the field. On the the field by bringing out the potential of his teammates through coaching and teamwork and off the field through organizational skills and fastidious attention to detail.

He is partnered today with Mike Azzaro, with whom he has formed a dynamic and very successful partnership, including US Open wins.

The two played together for Galen Weston's Maple Leafs team and we are excited to reunite them today.

Mike Azzarro is the best post war American polo player.
He is the only American player to have won the British Open and US Open and the only American to have reached the final of the Argentine Open. In fact he is one of the only non Argentines to have played that tournament and has done so with six different teams, he received a standing ovation from the crowd of 30,000 after his incredible individual performance in the 1994 final.

A natural 'freak talent' he won the the British open at 20 years of age and followed that up with a win in the Queens Cup.

He has won the US Open five times and the USPA Gold Cup twice. Due to these successes and at times his unplayable power, speed and accuracy, he held a perfect handicap of 10 from 1996 the mid 2000's.

He was also a stalwart in Galen Weston's Maple Leafs team for a number of years in the 1990's.

Vero Polo USPA Officers Cup first round

A chilly day at Vero Polo.. but as the saying goes..The only thing worse than cold Polo is no Polo!
Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on the teams.

In the first match up Environmental Works won over last weeks champions Buckleigh Farms. Marcos Onetto work hard and played well to lead the team to win. Ian Angus stepping in for Robin Melton played a great game off and on the ball. Sometimes all we see is the player with the ball and don't see some of the great plays by his team mates making sure he doesn't get challenged.. Well done Ian & welcome back to Vero Polo.

The 2nd match today was much closer. Shamrock vs Rocking K. Rocking K looking great in their new yellow & orange shirts
A very close match all the way through. Ultimately Shamrock won with a last minute penalty shot.

Shamir Quraeshi joined the Shamrock team for this game and as we are used to played very well. Not only was he a very solid #4 player but he also got in on some of the action up front.. (by the way he, along with his brothers has a great new line of polo inspired clothing www.http://escue-polo.com /)

Hayden Walsh was the star for the Shamrock team with an uncanny eye for the ball and also where he needed to be on the field to best help the team.

The finals will be next Sunday and we look forward to seeing everyone back at Vero Polo.

Buckleigh Farms vs Shamrock.

A very close game between Peter Bibeau's Buckleigh Farm team & John Walsh with Shamrock.

The game was decided in sudden death with Buckleigh's galloping Gaston Rodriguez breaking away from the pack and scoring the winning goal in great fashion.

Gaston also was MVP.
In the 2nd game Tiffany Busch was on fire leading her Southern Eagle team to a fine win over Rocking K.

Thank you everyone for a great day at Vero Polo, thanks Sandy for her wonderful hospitality and for chasing the rain away!!

The opening games of the United States Polo Association Players Cup were played today.

Next weekend is a another double header day as Buckleigh with the ageless Peter Bibeau take on a very hot Shamrock in the final.

The consolation game for 3rd and 4th will be between Southern Eagle & Rocking K. Matches start at 2:00pm.

The goal of the day came from Coleman Replogle..reaching up above his head Coleman connected with a ball that was coming his way and redirected its flight to score.

A great opening game with Shamrock playing against Rocking K.

Fantastic up and down the field polo was played today.. Young guns Haydn Walsh & Devon Kahle just flying and not missing on some challenging plays.

Coleman Replogle is back and we saw some flashes of brilliance...the Replogle way is to charge to the front and carry the ball down the field...Coleman certainly carried on the tradition of more than 20 years, galloping out at the front..despite suffering from a little bit of the flu!!

The most popular goal of the day was set up by Max Secunda for Shamrock with a long pass to Haydn Walsh who in turn passed to Dad John. John stayed steady and scored.

Welcome to Phillip Miles from PA & Destiny Farms to Vero Polo. Phillip had some beautiful horses and was always in the thick of things. Never backing down and chasing down every play.

George as we have come to expect kept things in order for Rocking K with very solid play from the back.

In the end Shamrock pulled ahead and won this first game of 2012.

Well done to Craig with one footed play!

I would be lacking if I didn't thanks Sandy Kahle for putting this all together...Thanks Sandy!!!!!

Shamrock vs the Ocean Grill:
A wonderful warm up for the 2012 Vero Beach Polo season.
Thank you to all you came out in support, only the 2nd annual match and the sidelines were packed!

Both teams came out and played very clean polo for the first few chukkers, as the final chukkers approached the heat was turned on and more goals were scored in quick succession.

Ocean Grill came out on top, much to the delight of the "Grillies" 5-3.

Coleman & Tiffany with 2 goals each and Gaston with 1.
For Shamrock Sahir scored once with a goal each by George and Max.

Don't forget Vero Polo starts up January 22nd and goes through to the beginning of April.

The Charity Polo Cup at Windsor February 18th 2012

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, Windsor's breathtaking polo field will be the site of The Charity Polo Cup at Windsor, an exciting and glamorous charity polo match featuring top international players and celebrities such as Salvatore Ferragamo and John Walsh. The Honourable Hilary M. Weston, Windsor co-founder and resident along with Vero Beach's own John Walsh, host of America's Most Wanted, are this year's honorary co-chairs.

Windsor has a long and distinguished tradition of hosting memorable world class polo matches where highly esteemed players such as Prince Charles have played. Following in that tradition, the Charity Polo Cup at Windsor will be an afternoon of thrilling, fast-paced polo, together with other fun-filled activities.

Proceeds from this charity event will directly benefit three worthy causes including The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County and Saint Edward's School Financial Aid Fund. Match attendees will have the option of enjoying an elegant tented field side champagne luncheon or enjoying a picnic in the festive tailgating area.
